RECOMMENDATIONS

AND CONCLUSIONS

NUTRITION
• Create a nutrition task group within the Moringanews network.
• Establish a basic protocol, easily used by field workers when doing clinical follow-up, to obtain a maximum amount of comparable data.
• Publish a practical guide for field workers on production, processing, preservation, packaging, nutritional values, dosages, use and food associations that optimize Moringa assimilation.
• Set up joint research projects.

COMMERCIALISATION
• Boost research projects on the product’s stabilization and preservation of its nutritional properties.
• Make suggestions to the Codex Alimentarius (food code) in order to avoid the commercialisation of poor quality products, contact the WAEMU quality program, the CAEMC, etc.
• Write a Better Practice Guide for processing and packaging.
• Improve awareness on Moringa’s qualities in order to obtain official support in the distribution of the product.
• Compile existing recipes.
• Work towards a Marketing Authorization Application (list each market’s specifications, set up research projects if needed).

COMMUNICATION
• Participants requested the publication of a practical book to help spread information on the nutritional aspect of Moringa.
• More money should be dedicated to spreading already existent information.
• Participants suggested that the Moringanews network create national antennas with multidisciplinary teams representative of the different groups involved in developing Moringa including the Ministry of Health for each country.
• It was also suggested that theme-based sub-groups should be created within the network to discuss specific topics.
• The issue of the network’s funding was also raised. Although it is currently not possible to have subscriptions paid for, services to businesses may be billed by Moringanews, depending on the demand.
